Middle School Math

Sixth and seventh grade students
will be taking a diagnostic test the second week of May.
This will be one of the various factors that I will use in order
to ensure that all students are assigned to the proper math class next year.

6th Grade students are completing a unit on measurement and geometry, and will then expand their study of measurement into area and volume.

7th Grade students are studying three-dimensional figures. They will be creating some of these figures and using the formulas they have learned to explain them.

Pre-Algebra students are studying plane geometry and will be creating their own tessellations.

Algebra I students are completing their abbreviated study of Quadratic functions and will then begin studying data analysis and probability.

Here is some helpful information and some reminders for all math classes:
Grades will be calculated differently fourth quarter! Please note the changes below:

tests = 35%
quizzes = 20%
class work = 20%
performance assessments = 20%
final exam = 5%

Students, you will usually have at least one quiz per week and one test per chapter. You are also asked to study for at least ten minutes each evening, in addition to completing your homework. There are som different ways to study on this page! Try something new, and talk to me if you are having trouble.

You should be reviewing sections that we have already completed,
especially those that you may have had some difficulty with.

Take some time to review problems, follow examples to help you solve
'new' problems, and write down any questions that you may have
regarding any concept or problem that you are studying.

Here is a list of some different ways that you might try to study:
Use a dry erase or chalk board to practice problems.
Use different internet sites to practice problems - play some games!
Make flashcards, tests, and/or quizzes to practice with -
share with a parent, sibling, other relative, or friend
.
Teach someone - a parent, sibling. other relative or friend.
Find what type of environment you study best in...
silent, soft background noise (music), at a desk or table,
on a chair or couch, in a room by yourself, with others around...

You are always welcome to see me for extra help when I am not busy
during homeroom (either in the morning, the afternoon, or during Friday
studies when we have them).

Remember to always show the work that you do on your homework, tests, quizzes, and all types of assignments.

Students, please remember to write your assignments, test dates, and due dates in your assignment book when asked to during class.
