Attendance Policy:

ATTENDANCE/ABSENCE

The school law of Pennsylvania requires regular attendance for all students between eight and seventeen years of age. All absences are considered unexcused or illegal except the following: illness of the student, death in the immediate family, exceptionally urgent reasons that affect the child, and educational field trip experiences as determined by the parents and administration.

FOR EVERY ABSENCE A WRITTEN STATEMENT SIGNED BY THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN IS REQUIRED BY THE LAW ON THE DAY THE STUDENT RETURNS TO SCHOOL.

No student is permitted to leave the school after arrival in the morning or at any other time during the day, except in case of sickness or similar emergency, In such cases, the student will wait at the office until the parent arrives. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO WAIT OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL BUILDING.

To be dismissed early for reasons other than sickness, a written statement from the parent must be sent to the school the day of the early dismissal. Parents should notify the school if someone other than the parent will transport the child.

TARDINESS

A student who arrives after the beginning time for school will be marked tardy. Students who arrive late must report to the school office before going to class and receive a late pass. Students who are late for school due to the lateness of the school bus will not be marked tardy.

As a security measure, parents are asked to notify the school by 10:00 a.m. of their child?s absence. When an absence is not verified by 10:00 a.m., the school office will contact parents.

TARDY POLICY

1. Parents will be notified in writing each time a student is tardy.
2. Student will be permitted three unexcused tardies without penalty in a trimester.
3. At the 4th unexcused tardy, the child will be assigned after-school detention.

Uniform Policy:

DRESS CODE

Saint Joseph School has a uniform dress code. Students out of proper uniform will not be allowed in class until they are in the appropriate dress is acquired; students may receive a dress code violation slip, which result in the loss of the next Dress Down Day. Appropriate attire is as follows:

BOYS (1^st - 5^th)

• Pants Solid navy blue, NO jeans, jean-like or pants with studs. Belts* must be worn.
• Shirt White golf shirt with 'St. Joseph School' logo (if a T-shirt beneath, it must be solid white).
• Sweater Solid navy blue cardigan, long sleeve, or sleeveless v-neck pullover.
• Socks Required

*Belt colors permitted are black, dark brown, and navy ONLY.

BOYS (6^th - 8^th)

• Pants Solid navy blue, NO jeans, jean-like or pants with studs. Belts* must be worn.
• Shirt White dress shirt, long or short sleeve (if a T-shirt beneath, it must be white).
• Tie Solid navy blue
• Sweater Solid navy blue cardigan, long sleeve or sleeveless v-neck pullover
• Socks Required

GIRLS (1^st - 5^th)

• Jumper St. Joseph School plaid jumper. Hem length no more than one inch above knee.
• Blouse White Peter Pan collar, long or short sleeve (if a T-shirt beneath, it must be solid white).
• Socks Solid navy blue knee socks or solid, opaque,navy blue tights.
• Sweater Solid navy blue cardigan. No coat, hooded, or belted sweaters.

GIRLS (6^th - 8^th)

• Skirt Box-pleated, St. Joseph plaid.
• Hem length not more than one inch above the knee.
• Sweater Solid navy blue sleeveless sweater vest, v-neck, pullover
• Blouse White Oxford Cloth, button-down collar, long or short sleeve if a T-shirt beneath, it must be solid white).
• Socks Navy blue, knee-high or solid, opaque, navy blue tights.

General Requirements

• Everyday shoes (Girls and Boys): Conservative school shoes. NO clogs, backless shoes, or sandals. No high heels that present a danger. Conservative school shoes in solid black, solid dark brown, or solid navy blue ONLY.
• Cosmetics: NONE
• Nail polish (Girls): Clear polish ONLY.
• Jewelry: Conservative jewelry may be worn (i.e.: may wear a ring, bracelet, watch). Girls may wear small earrings. No dangling earrings or over-sized hoops (largr than a quarter. Boys may not wear earrings in school.
• Hair accessories (Girls): Hair accessories must be in good taste and must complement the school uniform.
• Hair: Hair is to be shaped, trimmed, and well groomed at all times. Faddish and untraditional hairstyles, including shaved area of the head or dyed hair (unnatural colors), are not permitted.
  • BOY'S hair is NOT to be hanging over the eyebrows or the top of the collar.
  • GIRL'S hair is NOT to be hanging over the the eyebrows.
• Body piercings and body art are prohibited.

BOYS AND GIRLS

• Gym Uniform Navy blue track shorts and tops purchased through school. Athletic shoes are to be worn with the gym uniform only.
• Sweats Students are permitted to wear plain navy sweats on their gym day. Only ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL logo is allowed. Sweatshirts and pants must be the same color.
• Athletic Shoes- Conservative athletic shoes with primary color white or black ONLY and a maximum of one other color on the shoe; non-scuff soles.
  • Students may choose to wear athletic shoes with their everyday uniform, or they may choose to carry them and change at recess time. Students who do not have athletic shoes to wear will not be permitted to play in the gym.
• Socks Must be worn at all times.

• Conservative Hair Accessories: Accessories will be approved by the principal.
• Nail polish: clear polish only permitted
• No body art is permitted.
