WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
AUGUST 30-SEPTEMBER 10, 2010

RELIGION (4A AND 4B):
Chapter 1: God calls us to be His friends; God reveals Himself through creation and through His Son; Jesus helped Thomas believe; faith is a gift from God.
Chapter 1 Test is on Friday, September 10. Study guides will be distributed.

SOCIAL STUDIES (4A and 4B):
Pages A2-3, 12-13, 14-17, 20-19, 34-35: How to read specialty maps; USA's location in the world; lines of latitude and longitude; the Rockies and the Appalachians.

READING:
"The Lost Lake": defining new vocabulary; identifying parts of a book, characters and settings; making inferences; defining multiple-meaning words.
Story Test is on Friday, September 10. Vocabulary definitions will be included.
September's Reading Calendar will be sent home on the first day of school. This month's goal is 300 minutes.
The letter explaining the Book Reports for this year will be sent home. PLEASE sign and return the bottom portion only.

SPELLING:
List # 1: words with short vowels, page 1. For this list, the words will be written 2x each in copybooks, and used in sentences as class work. Beginning with List #2, that will be our regular Homework on Mondays and Tuesdays. List #1 Test is on Friday, September 10.

LANGUAGE ARTS:
Working on "Summer Sandwiches"; whole sentences and fragments; the 4 types of sentences, pages 1-9.
The letter explaining the Creative Writing assignments and due dates will be sent home. Please sign and return it promptly.

NOTES:
Thank you to all of you who were able to attend Back-to-School Night! It was so nice to see so many of you! If you have not yet picked up your student's packet, it will be sent home on the first day of school. Your prompt return of these materials is much appreciated.
Some students need to send in payment for their Assignment Book and Spelling Tablet. The cost is $3.50 and is due now.
We will have a morning break everyday this year. You may send a snack for your child. It is optional. Water bottles will be kept in students' cubbies this year. If, however, there is ever a medical need for your student to have his on his desk, please send me a note.
I'm very excited to get to know your students! I'm looking forward to an awesome year!!
