Reading and ILA - We will be finishing Number the Stars this week. We will be doing a spelling unit and selection story this week, Tornadoes. The reading selection and spelling tests will be on Friday. There will be a Unit 1 Reading Test on Oct. 25th and 26th.
5A-Number the Stars folders are due on 10/24. The culminating activity for Number the Stars will be a performance of conversations from the story.
5B-We are working on identifying (and using correctly) common and proper nouns, possessive nouns (singular and plural), abbreviations, and compound words. There will be a quiz on common and proper nouns on Wednesday. Number the Stars folders will be due next week. We are still working with these in class. Performances of story conversations will also be done next week.
Math - We are relating fractions to decimals and whole numbers. There will be a test on November 2nd on Least Common Multiple (LCM), Greatest Common Factor (GCF), prime and composite numbers, and changing fractions to mixed numbers. This covers textbook pages 335-349.
Science - We are studying the stars and galaxies. There will be a test on the stars and galaxies on 0ctober 31.
Social Studies - We will be learning about Native Americans of the Northwest Coast and of the Arctic. There will be a test on Thursday, Oct. 26th, on lessons 1, 2, and 3 of Chapter Two.
Religion - There will be a test for Chapter 5 on Monday, Oct. 23rd. We will then begin Chapter 6 which deals with becoming familiar with Jesus' ministry of healing the sick and forgiving sins.
The students were given requirements for a 'Saints Trading Card' project three weeks ago. This paper was stapled into their religion copybooks. The trading card is due on Nov. 1st.
Special Notes: Remember the Pizza Hut 'Book It' program is in effect. Hopefully, students have been doing their reading to qualify for a free personal pan pizza at the end of the month!
Please send in a box of tissues for the classroom if you have not already done so. There have been many children with colds and allergies who have been quickly using up our supply. Thank you!
Students should have tape, scissors, glue sticks, rulers, and colored pencils as part of their school supplies. Please ask your child if he/she has what is needed. Some students have already lost some of these items. Thank you!
